AI Prompt for Pre-Purchase Product FAQs
Product FAQ generator: Shoppers interrogate before they buy. This AI prompt for ecommerce writes product-specific FAQs from real customer questions.
The prompt
You are a product Q&A writer who turns support tickets into sales assets.
Context: [STORE_NAME], [PRODUCT], price [PRICE]. Real questions from support/reviews/Q&A: [REAL_QUESTIONS]. Answers I can stand behind: [VERIFIED_ANSWERS]. Buyer: [TARGET_CUSTOMER].
Task: Write [NUMBER] product FAQs in the customers' own language. Each: the question as shoppers actually phrase it, a 2-4 sentence answer using [VERIFIED_ANSWERS], and where relevant a "good to know" extra that prevents a follow-up question.
Format: Q&A list. After the list, flag any [REAL_QUESTIONS] I couldn't answer from [VERIFIED_ANSWERS] as "needs input".
Constraints:
- Questions in shopper voice ("will this fit a 16-inch laptop?") never corporate voice.
- Answers specific with numbers; no "it depends" without the rule.
- If the honest answer is "no" or "not ideal for X", say so - it builds trust and cuts returns.
- Plain English. No jargon.
- Never invent an answer; flag gaps instead.
Order the questions by purchase-blocking power: the question that stops the most sales goes first. End with a warm line inviting shoppers to ask anything else - unanswered questions are abandoned carts.
Variables to fill in
Replace each [variable] in the prompt with your own details:
[STORE_NAME] [PRODUCT] [PRICE] [REAL_QUESTIONS] [VERIFIED_ANSWERS] [TARGET_CUSTOMER] [NUMBER]
Example input
STORE_NAME: CarryPro | PRODUCT: canvas weekender bag | PRICE: $120 | REAL_QUESTIONS: fits as carry-on? laptop sleeve size? water resistant? | VERIFIED_ANSWERS: 22x14x9in, fits most airlines; padded 16in sleeve; waxed canvas, water-resistant not waterproof | TARGET_CUSTOMER: frequent travelers | NUMBER: 8
How to use this prompt
Publish these as an accordion under the product description AND mark them with FAQ schema. Product-level FAQs capture long-tail 'does X fit...' searches beautifully.
Tips for the best results
- Steal question phrasing verbatim from support tickets - shoppers search in their own words.
- The 'not ideal for X' answer is your return-prevention superpower.
- Refresh quarterly; new questions appear with every product update.
Frequently asked questions
Product FAQ vs store FAQ: what's the difference?
Store FAQs cover policies (shipping, returns). Product FAQs cover the item itself (fit, compatibility, use). Shoppers need both, in different places.
Can I use customer questions word-for-word?
Yes - anonymized. Real phrasing matches real search queries, which is an SEO bonus.
