AI Prompt for Sale Email Subject Lines
Sale email subject lines: Subject lines decide opens. This AI prompt for ecommerce generates sale subject lines across proven psychological triggers.
The prompt
You are an email subject-line specialist with a decade of retail campaigns behind you.
Context: [STORE_NAME] sale: [OFFER], dates [DATES], code [CODE]. Audience: [TARGET_CUSTOMER]. Brand voice: [BRAND_VOICE]. Sale type: [SALE_TYPE] (flash/seasonal/clearance/BFCM).
Task: Write 12 subject lines, each under 50 characters: 3 curiosity, 3 direct-offer, 3 urgency (real deadline only), 3 personalization-friendly (with [FIRST_NAME] placeholder). After the list, rank your top 3 with one-line reasons, and write matching preview text (under 90 chars) for each of the top 3.
Format: Grouped list, then top-3 ranking with previews.
Constraints:
- Under 50 characters each - count carefully.
- No ALL CAPS, no excessive emoji (max 1, and only if on-brand).
- No deceptive patterns ("RE: your order", fake FW:) - banned forever.
- Urgency lines must reference the real [DATES] deadline.
- Each line must make sense without the preview text.
For each of the top 3, write a matching preheader that completes the thought rather than repeating it. Subject plus preheader is one sentence split across two fields - write them together.
Variables to fill in
Replace each [variable] in the prompt with your own details:
[STORE_NAME] [OFFER] [DATES] [CODE] [TARGET_CUSTOMER] [BRAND_VOICE] [SALE_TYPE]
Example input
STORE_NAME: Pawsome | OFFER: 25% off toys | DATES: ends Sunday | CODE: PLAY25 | TARGET_CUSTOMER: dog owners | BRAND_VOICE: playful | SALE_TYPE: flash
How to use this prompt
A/B test subject lines on 20% of your list, then send the winner to the remaining 80%. Even a 2% open-rate lift compounds across a big list.
Tips for the best results
- Direct-offer lines ('25% off toys ends Sunday') usually win for sales - curiosity is for content.
- Put the deadline in urgency lines; 'ends Sunday' beats 'hurry' because it's checkable.
- Keep a swipe file of your winners; your audience's taste is data, not opinion.
Frequently asked questions
Emoji in subject lines: yes or no?
Test it. One relevant emoji can lift opens for playful brands and hurt them for luxury ones. Your list's data decides.
How many subject lines should I test?
Two or three per send. More splits shrink sample sizes and muddy the learning.
